70,000 stores, in dollars.
How axexo is giving customers across Latin America a way to save, spend, send, and receive digital dollars through the neighborhood stores they already trust.

The problem
In Mexico, cash is still how millions of people get paid, shop, and manage their everyday finances. But relying on cash can make it harder to save money, send funds to family, or access financial services without a traditional bank account.
Take a working mother in Mexico City who gets paid in cash each week. She uses that money to buy groceries, pay household bills, and set aside whatever she can for savings. Without easy access to banking, managing her finances means keeping cash at home, visiting different locations to make payments, and relying on cash for most everyday transactions.
This is the problem axexo is solving.
For more than 25 years, axexo has powered prepaid services across 70,000 neighborhood stores in 38 countries throughout Latin America, the United States, and the Caribbean. These stores are already trusted destinations for everyday transactions, from mobile top-ups to bill payments.
axexo is building on that existing network to give customers access to dollar-based financial services without requiring them to visit a traditional bank branch. For store owners, expanding the services available at the counter also creates new opportunities to earn revenue on customer transactions.
Why Mural
axexo already had the merchant relationships, distribution network, and customer trust. What it needed was a way to bring banking capabilities into that ecosystem without having to build the underlying financial infrastructure itself.
Offering dollar accounts and enabling cross-border payments requires banking partnerships, licensing, local payment rails, and compliance capabilities. Managing these components separately across multiple markets would mean navigating different providers, regulatory requirements, and integrations, adding complexity and slowing expansion.
That's why axexo chose Mural.
Mural brings together the banking relationships, licensing infrastructure, payment rails, and compliance capabilities needed to support dollar accounts and move money between the United States, Mexico, and El Salvador.
What axexo built
Built on Mural's infrastructure, axexo gives customers and participating merchants access to US dollar accounts in their own names, along with Mexican CLABE accounts, enabling them to manage money across borders.
Through the axexo app and its USDT onramp, customers can convert cash into digital dollars at participating neighborhood stores and use their accounts to hold funds, send and receive money, and make everyday payments. Eligible transactions also earn rewards that are credited to their balances.
For the working mother in Mexico City, that means the cash she earns can now become a digital dollar balance accessible from her phone. She can set money aside for future expenses, pay household bills, or send funds to family, all through an app connected to the neighborhood store she already visits.
For merchants, axexo creates an opportunity to expand beyond traditional prepaid services. Store owners can offer customers additional financial services at the counter, bringing more activity into their businesses and earning revenue from eligible transactions. axexo's OpenBodega app gives them the tools to run and grow their business from the counter.
axexo has spent 25 years building trust through neighborhood stores that millions of people already rely on for everyday services. With Mural providing the banking and payments infrastructure, we're able to extend that network into something much bigger, giving customers access to dollar accounts and everyday financial tools while creating new revenue opportunities for merchants. What would have taken months of banking and regulatory work is now allowing us to focus on getting these services into more communities.
